There is already so much to do when you move. Finding a new house and travel arrangements are difficult tasks in and of themselves. Why not make things a little easier on yourself? When you hire a moving company it is one less thing to worry about. They will do all the packing and shipping, and in most cases they will even unpack for you. You can also have the added bonus of insurance, so anything broken will be replaced.

The first thing you need to do is research all the moving companies in your area. I have found it beneficial to post on blogs that you are looking into various companies. This allows others to recommend the companies they have had good experiences with. It will also allow people to let you know any bad experiences they have had.

Word of mouth is, after all, the best way to find a good deal. Set up four of five appointments to get estimates. Let each company know that you are comparing prices at the moment, and that you haven’t fully decided on which company to go with. When calling to set up the appointment be sure to ask if they are partnered up with any other moving company, or if they offer any specials. You can also ask what makes them better than their competitors.

After you have had a few estimates you will also need to check out each company on the Better Business Bureau. While price is important, quality is equally so. See which companies have a history of loosing or breaking items, and what they have done about it. Check for complaints on each company, as well as how long they have been operating. A new company will be harder to track down complaints, where as a company that has been running for many years is obviously doing something good to stay in business for so long.

Research may seem like hard work, but it is easier than worrying about getting your stuff from one destination to another. Moving companies can make your move a lot smoother. If you do choose to move by yourself, remember that you need to lift with your legs, and not your back. It can be very painful if you forget this.
